NSA was founded by Dean Brady, former professional surfer and Noosa local. NSA is a local business, born and bred in Noosa as a culmination of over 100 years of family history and community service. Dean’s Great-Uncle named Sunshine Beach and was the inaugural President of the Surf Club in 1946 after returning home from WWII while his younger brother Phil Cave (Dean’s Grandfather) WWII Veteren, Life Member of Noosa S.L.S.C and Noosa Councillor.
Dean was born in Noosa in 1986 and raised by the ocean in Sunrise Beach. A true water baby, he joined Noosa Nippers aged 7, and Noosa Boardriders aged 10.
After graduating High School in 2003 having just won Queensland and National Junior Surfing Titles, Dean was made an offer by Australia’s leading surf company Rip Curl to join their International Team, travelling the world on “The Search”, the long-running marketing and imagery campaign that has propelled Rip Curl onto the world stage. For the next decade, he was able to travel the world in the pursuit of perfect waves, which was both an important experiential learning curve and a solid training regime for Dean’s future coaching.
While focusing on free surfing in his career as a professional athlete, Dean has competed at the highest level against the likes of Kelly Slater and Owen Wright, appeared on numerous surfing magazine covers, and in 2011 was nominated for the ‘Wave of the Hawaiian Winter’ for his performance at Pipeline.
After 8 years of private surf coaching in Noosa and abroad Dean Founded the Noosa Surfing Academy in 2021.
Dean is an ambassador for the Noosa World Surfing Reserve, and serves on its Stewardship Council. He is also vice-president of the Noosa Boardriders Club and the Surfing Queensland High-Performance Head Coach.
