Level Requirement

Advanced: Confident & independent surfing Sunshine Beach. You do not need to be a shredder however you need to be able to look after yourself in the surf and catch your own waves as classes are filmed and coached from land with no in the water assistance. If you’re comfortable with that, great. If not, we welcome you to our intermediate program with in the water coaching and guidance.

Intermediate: This class involves in the water coaching and guiding however surfers need be able to paddle back out to the coach on their own when the surf is small i.e. 2-3ft white wash. Other skills required: Turtle role or duck diving – no board ditching (for safety). Can pop up and ride. We’ll teach the rest! If your child is not up to this level, we can offer private lessons until they are, which can fast-track their progression until they’re ready to benefit from a group lesson environment.

Squad Etiquette

We follow the World Surf League (WSL) priority system, which is widely recognised as the fairest and most respectful way to share the surf environment with one another. This system helps ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to catch waves while maintaining harmony in the water. If you ever feel unsure about how it works or have any questions regarding it, please do not hesitate to ask your coach, and we will be more than happy to explain it to you in detail.

What to bring

General surfing equipment. Water bottle, snacks (optional), sun protection, water proof watch (if you have one) and most importantly a positive attitude.

Advanced footage & edit

The edited video will be shared via group text once it has been successfully uploaded to our Vimeo account. You can choose to watch the footage or download it at 1080HD for a high-quality viewing experience. We encourage all our surfers to take the time to watch over their footage and to concentrate on the helpful tips provided during each class. Additionally, feel free to share our surfing footage with friends and family. If you could kindly mention @noosasurfingacademy when sharing, that would be greatly appreciated.

Missed classes

Because our classes are capped to help maintain a high level of tuition at each session we do not offer credit for missed sessions however you’re more than welcome to gift your spot to another suitable surfer or sibling who can return the favour when they’re away or sick.

3x World Surfing Champion (2007, 2009, 2013)

“I’ve known Dean Brady for 25 years. He’s a big friendly giant and always a pleasure to be around. Since we first met, I’ve watched him grow into becoming one of the world’s best surfers to now a dedicated family man and businessman. Dean’s knowledge of the ocean is incredible and his patience with people makes him one of the best people to teach surfing to all levels of ability. Dean shares and ingrains the knowledge he has gained from three plus decades of surfing Noosa and abroad into aspiring surfers as I’ve witnessed him do for Noosa Boardriders Club on many occasions along with helping myself guide some of Rip Curl’s best junior surfers in Hawaii for many years at waves like Pipeline and Sunset Beach. I have noticed the abundance of young talent coming out of the Noosa Surfing Academy and it would give me great pleasure to see one of Dean’s students make the World Tour and or represent Australia at the Olympics one day. I highly recommend the Noosa Surfing Academy; I know Dean and his team offer a high level of tuition that is not easy to find.”
